There are serious rumors that Apple will remove the headphone jack from the iPhone. Of course Apple doesn't care what I think, but this is a very bad idea.
I'm not sure I would buy an iPhone without a headphone jack. I have headphones/earphones all over the house, since it is annoying to carry them around. They all work in all devices - iPhone, iPad, computers (Apple or otherwise), Kindles, etc. Having headphones that only work in an iPhone (or only Apple devices) is absurd.
If Apple does this and when it comes time for me to buy a new phone (which is probably later this year, given that my phone is over 2 years old), I will probably buy an older iPhone that still has the real headphone jack, or consider another kind of phone. I'm not buying a phone that I cannot plug my existing headphones into. It's just not gonna happen.
Using the lightening port would be another way to maximize sales on accessories. This has been rumored before thou, just have to wait and see.
