Hello, welcome to the first post of 2007. Yes, I haven't been updating much lately, but that has been mostly because there hasn't been much to say. That's going to change now.
First, a look back at 2006. I set a lot of goals for last year. Some of them happened and some of them didn't.
The web site redesign was completed (although there were a lot of problems with the project and I'm not entirely happy with it). The marketing screens were changed in many of my games and I did make the trial period changes I had planned (I added a restriction in the trial period where the trial is limited to game numbers 1-30, so there are only a limited number of different game positions a trial user can play).
The switch to a different ecommerce provider did not happen, as I was unable to find a suitable replacement for RegNow.
But the biggest change of all in 2006 was not even considered at the start of 2006. The move to the new house was the biggest change we've made in years and it was a very good one. At the end of 2006, our standard of living was much better than at the beginning, and the difference is the new and better house.
For 2007, I don't have any particular goals that I want to accomplish. My main priority at the start of 2007 is to get all of my products updated for the new Microsoft Vista. This has turned out to be somewhat more annoying of a project that I had originally anticipated, but more on that later.
Beyond the immediate goal of just getting new versions of our games out, there are several new product projects that I hope will come to completion soon (one will be ready very soon). In addition, I'd really like to come up with some idea that would give sales a good kick higher (of course, that's nothing new).
And on the stock trading front, I'd like to turn in a good year in 2007 where I stay disciplined with my trading for the entire year. I did not have as good of a year in 2006 trading as I would have liked. It got off to a great start and it had a pretty good finish, but I traded poorly in the summer and therefore didn't make as much money as I should have. Given that I expect that there will be a period in 2007 where the market performs at least as poorly as it did last summer (and it will probably be worse), I want to do much better this time when the market is bad.
But we begin 2007 in the best position ever for the start of a new year. We own our house completely (no mortgage payments ever again!), we have a hit product that is still selling after 11 years, there are some new products in the pipeline, and both of us and all 3 cats are healthy.
