It's been busy around here. The site redesigns continue and I now have
nearly all the sites redone. There are only a few isolated areas yet to
be done.
Meanwhile, we have released a new game. Most Popular Solitaire
is a collection of 30 of the most popular solitaire games. The games
were selected as those that are the most played by solitaire players or
are games of special importance. It also contains a few of my more
popular invented games, such as Aces and Kings, Demons and Thieves,
Lady Jane, and Thieves of Egypt.
You might wonder, given that we have a 610 solitaire game collection in Pretty Good Solitaire, why would we make a small 30 game collection?
Over the past few years I've been getting a lot of requests from people who feel that Pretty Good Solitaire
is too much for them and they want something smaller. Also, there have
been several small solitaire collections in the last couple of years
that have been successful in the portals. It seems there is a market
for a small collection of games.
Most of the existing small collections seem to choose their games based on criteria unknown. For Most Popular Solitaire, I looked at our high scores lists
and looked at which games were being played the most. Also, I looked at
which games are the most important historically for solitaire. The
result was a list of 30 games which are the most likely to appeal to
the most people.
The game includes Klondike (the standard 7 pile
game), FreeCell, Spider, and many of the classics, plus some of the
more popular of the games that I invented for Pretty Good Solitaire. It also adds one new game that is not in Pretty Good Solitaire: Crazy Quilt. Crazy Quilt will be added to Pretty Good Solitaire in the next version, but for now it is only in Most Popular Solitaire (we have a mahjongg tile version of the game in Pretty Good MahJongg.
So the marketing reason behind the game is to have something to sell to people who are overwhelmed by all the choices in Pretty Good Solitaire. Also, Most Popular Solitaire
is a game that can be offered to the portals. I can have it up on the
portals and not be concerned about it competing with my main business.
